The CITB's latest Construction Workforce Outlook report estimates that the industry needs 293,300 additional workers over the next five years - around 47,860 per year. In tandem, diversity and inclusion incentives are increasingly shaping procurement and contracting decisions - particularly in the public and social housing sectors, where social value scoring now rewards suppliers who actively employ and train underrepresented groups.

Despite all of this, women still represent just 2% of skilled tradespeople and around 0.9% of housebuilders in the UK. The Chartered Institute of Building has called this figure "quite shocking."
